Hello lovelies! The sun has been shining ferociously on my poor un air-conditioned head and I’ve been boiling like a steamed pudding. I much prefer the cold weather, but it is nice to see the sun. My son’s over from California, which is lovely, and my daughter’s finished college, and is all set for university in September. She has an unconditional offer and only has to pass to get the place so we’re pretty confident she’s got in. It will be the first time we won’t have a child in the house...

May’s been pretty glorious here so I’ve been using my National Trust membership and taking various family members to castles, gothic Victorian houses, and the standing stone circle at Avebury. The best part of visiting, apart from the obvious, is that all the NT properties have a nice cafe so you can get lunch or at least a cup of tea and a piece of cake—very important to British people.
